I worked as a preschool and 1st grade teacher for three years in a diverse, multicultural school, working with neurodivergent students. Then, I started creating educational material for students living in rural areas or extreme poverty conditions. One of the initiatives which formed a series of radio classes reached 9,000 students. I created the materials, the scripts, did the recordings and the assessment. Despite not being able to meet the students myself, this was a very rewarding project.
Regarding mental health and wellbeing, I started a non-profit organization in response to the violent socio-political crisis of Nicaragua. Since 2018 my organization has provided over a thousand individual, free therapy sessions as well as group sessions and workshops. I have also developed a range of psychoeducational materials ranging from guided mediation audios to self-care books for activists. I have worked with children, families, caretakers, survivors of sexual or police violence, young activists and students to find accessible ways to take care of themselves and others around them.
Most recently, as my MPhil dissertation, I researched the wellbeing of Nicaraguan teachers in the context of multiple crises like COVID, natural disasters and political instability.
