Education & Relevant Experience

Teaching Experience

Since my first year at Durham University, I have gained extensive experience teaching students from KS3 to A-Level in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I have completed online courses provided by a previous company I have worked for, allowing me to learn more about delivering lessons to students more effectively to ensure the student is understanding the content and reaching their full potential.

As an educator, I think it is essential to understand that each student learns differently and at their own pace, demonstrating the importance of one-to-one learning. I always ensure that I am aware of the students’ learning style and their knowledge base prior to the first lesson. This allows me to adapt my lesson preparation to suit each individual student. Through many experiences, I have been able to strengthen my ability to adapt to individual students’ learning needs, across a wide range of age groups.

Student progression is not only achieved through engaged and focused lessons but also through having a positive teacher-student relationship, which ultimately creates an open and relaxed learning environment. A factor which I strongly believe encourages a student to enjoy learning and therefore achieve their goals.

About Imogen P

I have just completed my final year at Durham University studying Natural Sciences. And I am currently studying towards a Masters in Crime and Forensic Science at University College London; something I am very interested in and excited about.

I understand that the current situation of COVID-19 raises many difficulties and challenges not only for those in education but also parents and guardians, who are trying to balance between keeping their children engaged in learning, as well as working from home. I have been able to offer one-to-one support for students, providing much reassurance for the parents. I would enjoy the opportunity to help more families in a similar way and help students feel less anxious about their education, especially in such current uncertain times.

Teaching is something that I really enjoy doing. I find it incredibly rewarding to see a student improve their confidence academically and to enjoy a subject they have previously found challenging.
