Teaching Experience

Personal Style

My teaching style utilises a strong rapport with the student, built through positive reinforcement and sharing of interests, to build trust and facilitate a relaxed environment where learning can occur easily. I believe strongly in tailoring a ‘graded’ course, with a perfect mixture of material just above the ability level of the student that forces real thinking but also provides a strong motivational boost when grasped, and current knowledge ‘re-packaged’ in an intriguing way that keeps things both fresh and reinforced.

I also firmly adhere to the idea that educators should possess the ability to break down even exceptionally complex concepts into a digestible format without alienating the student, and my experience has taught me that very rarely is anything outside the realms of understanding, regardless of the ability of the student, but rather the level of required information breakdown is simply not being properly acknowledged.

Teaching History

I have amassed over 1,000 hours of teaching at nursery, primary, secondary and post-secondary level, with a rich array of experiences in both public and private institutions with students of every ability imaginable. The diversity of my teaching experiences has enabled me to observe and acquire numerous teaching styles and incorporate these accordingly into my own unique method. For EFL specifically, I have taken influence from the ‘Natural Approach’ after time spent observing this in the flesh at where I believe to be one of the most advanced language teaching institutions in Japan.

About Alexander M

I hail from Surrey, where I attended a state school and discovered my love of science and (in particular) biology. My interest in the field of evolution led me to pursue an undergraduate degree at the University of Exeter in 2014. Catalysed by a further discovery of my passion for language acquisition and obsession with the learning process whilst living in Sweden on my year abroad, I resolved to live and teach in another country whilst picking up a local language in the process.

My drive took me to Japan, where I spent 2.5 years teaching English as a Foreign Language and intensely studied language acquisition and learning processes whilst being (pleasantly!) swamped in the surrounding culture. With Japanese under my belt and some unforgettable experiences to go with it, I recently returned to the U.K., where I am excited to continue my career in education and make a real difference to the lives of our students.
