Teaching Experience

I have been teaching as a class teacher in a primary school for the past 4 years after completing the Teach First leadership development programme. The state school that I have been teaching in is ranked in the top 10 performing schools in the country, highlighting the success of our efforts to maximise students' potential. Overall, I have 9 years of experience supporting, leading and empowering young people in various contexts, such as after school care, charity work and teaching. Outside of teaching in schools, I have also taught pupils at Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and secondary levels in various subjects.

About Tess B

I am a reliable and caring, qualified teacher. I pride myself on building strong, supportive relationships with students, helping them to build confidence, think creatively and excel academically.

Before training as a primary school teacher through Teach First, I achieved a degree in International Relations and Modern History from the University of St Andrews. During this time, I led teams of students in community volunteering workshops and projects, empowering children and adults with additional needs in the local community. Since graduating, I have worked for the Mayor of London and taught for almost four years in a school that has consistently been placed in the top 10 in the country for its academic results.

As an Educator, I have had great success in supporting students to overcome barriers to learning, make accelerated progress and excel academically. For example, I enabled 87% of a cohort of Year 4 students to achieve full marks in the national times table screening.

My approach is based on building strong relationships with students and families and facilitating engaging learning experiences tailored to students' needs and interests. I believe that all students can exceed expectations when armed with the right support, confidence and scaffolding tailored to their needs. I plan for clear progression in bitesize steps, ensuring students end each lesson feeling proud of the progress they have made!
